How to make it
- Pat the tuna steak dry with paper towels. This helps ensure a nice sear.
- Season both sides of the tuna steak with a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper.
- Heat a skillet or non-stick pan over high heat until it's very hot.
- Add the olive oil to the skillet and swirl it to coat the bottom evenly.
- Carefully place the tuna steak in the hot skillet.
- Let the tuna steak sear undisturbed for about 1-2 minutes on each side, depending on your desired level of doneness. For a rare to medium-rare center, aim for a quick sear.
- Use tongs to gently flip the tuna steak to sear the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
- Once the tuna steak is seared on the outside but still pink in the center, remove it from the skillet.
- Let the tuna steak rest for a minute or two. This allows the juices to redistribute and the temperature to even out.
- Slice the seared tuna steak against the grain into thin slices.
- Arrange the slices on a plate and garnish with fresh herbs, if using.
- Serve the healthy seared tuna steak immediately with lemon wedges on the side.
