How to make it
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients: lean ground turkey, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Add optional whole wheat breadcrumbs and mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into two or three meatballs, depending on your preference and the size you prefer.
- Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the tomato sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the low-sodium crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce over low heat for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly.
- Serve the healthy turkey meatballs with the tomato sauce on top.
- Tip: feel free to remove the breadcrumbs and the parmesan cheese for fewer calories.
