How to make it

  1. Split ciabatta in half horizontally lengthwise, cut crosswise into 1 1/2-inch slices
  2. Drizzle a high quality extra-virgin olive oil over the bread.
  3. Broil bread for 2-3min until golden and crispy.
  4. Either slice the tomato or grate it using a box grater, discarding the skin.
  5. Cut the garlic clove in half. Rub the cut side of the garlic clove over the toasted bread to infuse it with garlic flavor.
  6. Spread the grated tomato over the garlic-rubbed bread, pressing it gently to release the juices. Drizzle extra olive oil on top.
  7. Season with a pinch of Maldon salt or regular salt and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.
  8. If desired, add anchovies and garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor.
